BUDAPEST, HUNGARY - The Global Press Conference has come to a close on Friday September 20 2008. I personally think it was a resounding success for three companies and four brands - Acer, Gateway, Packard Bell and eMachines. The idea is to develop specific products for specific targets in specific regions, is a big question for consideration. In other words, Acer could, say, become a “technological” brand with products made to satisfy specific needs, while Packard Bell and Gateway would occupy another market segment with, for instance, more fashion-oriented products, Packard Bell in Europe and Gateway in the US (including Canada and South America) and also in Asia.
Gianfranco Lanci, CEO and president of Acer, said of the "Acer increases its long track record of successes and leadership within the PC industry with significant results achieved during the first half 2008. According to the worldwide market data released by analyst firm Gartner, Acer strengthened its third position in the total PC market (Deskbased-, Mobile-PCs and X-86 servers) and confirmed its second position in the notebook segment, also that the 300 million PCs Acer is on track to sell in 2008, 133 million of these are notebooks. However, notebook sales are growing at a much faster rate and will soon overtake desktop sales."
Acer presents the Aspire One - New Mobile Internet Device. The Aspire One is a brand new product from Acer and, despite its size, it is not just another notebook: it’s a stylish all-new digital device designed to deliver continuous access to the internet no matter where you are. The Aspire One uses color to combine connectivity with inimitable style. Initially available in blue and white, the range of colors available for the Aspire one will be now expanded with three new tones: brown, pink and black. The Aspire One is at just 24.9 x 17 cm and weighing less than one kilo , the Aspire One is not only extremely compact (smaller than an average office diary) but offers numerous connectivity possibilities, a full and easy-to-use software application suite and a battery life of up to 7 hours.
