Okay so I've been wanting a more professional camera for awhile. I'm a beginer and don't know much about photography or cameras. Today I really like the Nikon D3000 or D5000 I also like the Canon EOS Rebel T1i or something like that. But like I said I don't really know much about photography or cameras so before I spend alot of money on cameras I'd like to know what I'm getting myself into. I really like to take pictures of my dog and cat if that helps. But there just so excited and move so fast I can never ketch their cute faces with my slow digital camera.
Thanks for all your help. :)

Anyone with a Nikon will tell you that Nikon is the best and anyone with a Canon will tell you that Canon is the best. I have a Canon and I won't tell you its the best because I've never spent much time with a Nikon, but I love my Canon. I like the buttons and the settings on it and after getting used to it, I think they're easy to use and adjust all the settings. When I've used a friend's Nikon I found it harder to adjust everything, but that's probably because I wasn't used to it yet. I would say to go to a store and look at each camera and hold it in your hands, play with it, and take a few shots to see what you like. One thing I do love about the Canon over the Nikon, is that they have a faster burst rate (for the price range your looking at) For example my Canon 40D will take 6.5 frames per second. I don't know how fast the d60 is, but I know its not that fast. My one piece of advice no matter what brand you get is to buy used. You can get a mint condition used camera in the box that looks like its brand new, for a whole lot cheaper than buying a new one off the shelf. You get a lot more bang for your buck this way and will have more money for lenses. Look on eBay.
The Nikon D3000 is the retail version of the Nikon D3, the digital camera successor to the Nikon F2, the camera that all the fashion and news photographers used until digital was perfected. It is the superior camera, although Canon is comparable. The Nikon D3 is used by all of the photographers that shoot for the Associated Press. It is the preferred camera system of the professional photographer. The D3000 is an automated version of the D3 but it shares many of the same features. And if you have a lens from any of the old Nikon SLR's that are still around, they are interchangable. Nikon is a little pricey, but it is still the best for the money, unless you want to really spend some money and get a Leica. Take care of it and it will last forever..
Canon and Nikon DSLRs are the most preferred by pros. Sony makes great DSLRs too, and popular point-and-shoots as well. Some other brands to look into are Olympus and Fujifilm. People say Kodak cameras have a lot of problems, but that might be caused by accidental dropping or just carelessness.
Both Nikon and Canon are good quality brand for digital SLR camera. If you want video features I would recommend Nikon D5000 but if video is not factor Canon T1i is a good choice with cheaper price.
Most pros use Nikon's. Canon is a close second. Both Nikon and Canon make high quality cameras. The Nikon D3000 / D5000 are both decent entry level cameras. If you're not serious about photography, I'd go with the cheaper D3000.
