Is the Microsoft Surface RT a good tablet to buy?

I'm thinking of buying a microsoft surface tablet with 64GB and a black typing pad.

I already have an Apple iPad 3 but some applications will not run on Apple due to software conflicts.

What do you think about the surface tablet ( for those who have it)?

Free Office Suite, 32 or 64GB storage, XBox Music, support keyboard without bulking up, expandable storage, HDMI connectivity, Windows 8 features like Charms and easy sharing, Live Tiles etc. Still, These may not mean much to you. Android tablets offer many of the same hardware functions for less money.

Well, if you're considering the Surface Pro, than yeah definitely. But if you're wanting the RT, than not really. You cannot run any legacy software on the RT, and you are stuck with the options given to you in the app store.

My opinion: No.

I got to try Microsoft Surface at the store and for the performance I experienced, it is not worth $499. I was barely able to navigate google maps without A LOT of slow-downs. My 64GB $180 Blackberry Playbook is able to navigate google maps better than the Surface RT did. (Now this is only one example, but my first impressions of the Surface RT were bad).

Are you looking for a Windows RT or a Windows 8 tablet? They're two different operating systems running on different types of hardware (In short: Windows RT will give you what you'd expect from a smartphone).

The Surface Pro is coming out in a few weeks, wait for it and see how you like it! It starts at about $899.

It really is an amazing tablet. It has a 10.6" screen with very good and high resolution, colors look clear and sharp on it. The tablet build quality is amazing. It feels perfect and its made from solid materials. The OS on the tablet which is windows 8 is also amazing, its fast and fluid and also simple and easy to use its made with touch in mind.

The web browser is extremely good its fast and pages load up quickly and it supports flash which is a huge plus and which is something that is lacking on most android tablets and all ios tablets.

Battery life is very good and would easily get you through more than 10 hours of heavy use.

You can download apps from the windows marketplace which has many high quality apps. Thousands of apps are being added everyday.

More than 2000 apps were added in less than 2 days. It does have more than 35,000 apps now and like I said it will keep on increasing. It has dual cameras and both of them take amazing photos and videos.

Also, it has deep social network integration(skype, facebook, twitter, linkeā€¦ and so on). You also with device get Microsoft office 2013 for free.

If you get the keyboard and attach it to it you'll have a laptop overall the surface is an amazing tablet and you should get it hope i helped :)

The Surface is a solid device, and I use it over my PC for almost everything. Web browsing, Hulu, Facebook, etc. It has MS Office 2013 Home and Student installed (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote) which makes it really a unique hybrid between laptop and tablet.

It have all of the ports. I personally have the type cove, 32 GB version. I would rate it 4 or 4.5 out of 5 stars. You may indeed want to wait until early February. The Pro version (runs all 'normal' Windows apps) should be out. It may be worth the $100 or so more you'd pay.

Strengths: Excellent design, smooth OS, all the ports, MS Office, real desktop browser (even if it is IE, it's better than the mobile versions on most tablets).

Weaknesses: App selection is only okay although this should change, desktop mode is stupid and rarely used. I think MS got scared and put it in there. All apps should be Metro style. Shows fingerprints.
