What Experience Have You Had With Dog Food?

Who said Standard Miniature Pinscher are for Sissies!I have asked this question many times: What experience have you had with dog food? and .. What is a good dog food for dog allergies?

I have had this problem forever with my dog and have tried some of the best food out there from recommendations of other dog owners and pet food companies. I have done extensive research for each food that I fed for my dog and still have the same problem. Many people decide to cook at home for their pets, which is being suggested by many vets. But people food has turned out to be OK for dogs, but not too much.

My dog is a miniature pinscher and he sheds worse than a cat, itches and bites at him feet. He also has terrible ear infections.
Nothing seems to help, so I would like to know what experience other people have had out there with food. Thank you for your help!

Here is a recipe I use on my dogs... 1. Put a 1/4 cup of raw/browned beef or other meat. Except Chicken and ham and turkey. 2. Put 4 chopped up or blended carrots in a dish with meat. 3. Then cook rice and put in a few spoonfulls. 4. Then add some small sliced apples in it. 5. Chop up some potatoes and do the same. 6. Mix all together and pour some sauce for dog food over it if desiered. My Golden loves it!!! It is vet approved and is healthy and tastey.

Check with your veterinarian to see what they recommend, and compare the nutritional values of the food you can make, with what's in their dog food.

Here is my own recipe : I don't have Alaskan Malamutes, but it is suitable for all dogs... my own thrive on it with fantastic coats, easy weight control, no wind, tartar free teeth, no flea problems and no 'doggy' breath at all :-D 1 kg raw beef, 1 kg raw mutton/lamb, 1.5 kg raw chicken/turkey (white or dark meat it doesn't matter), 1.5 kg raw tripe, 1 kg mixed raw offal - liver, kidney, heart. Ethnic butchers are the best source of meat as they stock a much wider range at cheaper prices, will often deliver and best of all will chop most of the meat to your specifications, which saves loads of time. The meat should be chopped into pieces roughly the size of the top of your thumb. 2 kg of mixed leafy/green vegetables (spinach, spring greens, broccoli, green beans), 1.5 kg carrotts, 1 kg apples, 2 large (supermarket sized) bunches of fresh parsley, 1.5 kg of frozen peas, lightly cooked, 300g sunflower seeds, 100g pumpkin seeds, 100g sesame seeds. Pulverise all of the above in a food processor so that it resembles a slightly textured cold soup. Mix all of the above ingredients together (I use a large rubber tub trug, but washing up bowls or buckets will do just as well and then add: 1 kg white rice - cooked (ie 1kg is the raw weight), 1 medium jar of organic honey, 1 tube of garlic puree, 1 tube of tomato puree, 2 tablespoons of brewers yeast, 1 - 2 cups of vegetable oil. Mix together well and weigh out daily portions into freezer bags and freeze :-) I allow 25-30g of food per kilogram of body weight (or expected adult weight in the case of puppies). Feed this amount for the first 2-3 weeks and then adjust up or down according to weight gain or loss until you reach the optimum portion for your dog's metabolism. Experienced raw feeder

The best thing for a dog to eat is raw meat. My dog live on fresh cooked meat, rice and carrots, peas, lamb, potatoes. It is real food. I know lamb can be expensive so I am sure using chicken, turkey or beef is okay too.

Do you have a Pet Supplies "plus" around you? if not, just look into your normal nieghborhood store that isn't a chain. Usually those stores carry holistic foods. I would try any from these : Eagle Pack Holistic Select. Canidae, Chicken Soup for the Dog Lovers Soul, Wellness, Innova, Natures Variety, Solid Gold Those are very good dog foods.

Hey Jason, I am pretty satisfied with commercial dog food and I have no problem sticking with it, but I would just like to know how to make nutritional homemade dog food. Our dog that information is needed. I would like advice also, like what supplements to put in the food, and the right portions, and a professional website would be the best.
