Once you have your dog vaccinated, you should have copies of the papers. These papers are required for some things, and good to have on hand.

Ok, dog papers, don't really mean much. Basically, it means you have a registered dog. If you register with the AKC, both the puppy's parents will have had to be registered and will have to be a purebred. Some places, like the UKC or CKC, will register any dog out there. But papers mean little to nothing. It's important if you want to show your dog, but any bad breeder can get heir dog registered. But you just need to have some paper copies from your vet that confirms your dog got his/her vaccine.

Call the breeder. Puppies normally come with registration papers signed by the breeder so you can transfer the registration into your name. It has sire and dam listed as well and the puppy's individual registration number. The breeder should have supplied you with those when you picked up your puppy. The AKC is the American Kennel Club and CKC the Canadian Kennel Club. These two clubs are registries for dogs who are purebred, and both of its parents were registered. You can't register your pup unless BOTH parents and the LITTER are registered with the AKC or CKC. Your dog does not need to be registered with the AKC or CKC, unless you plan on showing your dog.
