If you inherited a crystal decanter with a long neck and big round base.. It's beautiful, but has frosty looking residue at the bottom. It looks like maybe hard water deposits. It has a slim neck, oh the neck is very long and narrow, so you can't reach down in it.
The best method for cleaning a decanter with a long neck ... believe it or not...
Ice cubes and salt work great. If you have any deposits at the bottom. Just swirl a little bit of ice and quite a bit of salt around at the bottom. And you can just add some soap to that to make sure it's disinfected. Then you just dump it out and rinse.
If you have any deposits from old flowers, throw a little vinegar and water in, then add a 1/2 cup of dry rice. Shake it around for a while and it should be clean. The rice will help clean like the brush would if it was long enough.
For stains that have been left sitting, I am recommends filling the glass with warm water, putting in a denture-cleaning tablet, and letting it dissolve. It will get rid of the stain instantly.
Also lemon juice and salt, It never fails.
You can use the cheapest concentrated lemon juice sold in bottles for cooking and pour into decanter. Add a large heaped tables poonful of salt. Swill vigorously then leave for a while. Come back and swill again at intervals when in the kitchen, then leave overnight. You can use the solution the following morning to clean a crystal decanter.
If you wanted to dry the inside and wouldn't have water spots on a decanter. You can tried chopsicks and towels and all sorts of things (including a hair drier) but still may see leaves spots. The best way I found was after washing a decanter - to rinse the inside with a little rice wine vinegar (or white vinegar) and then rinse with distilled water and let it dry upside down. Using distilled water will dry faster and prevents spotting. This is now the standard way to clean decanters at my kitchen.
Hope this works for you as well as it did for me!

Also you may try using denture cleaner. I use it often in vases where there is residue that cannot be reached to clean. Just drop some tablets in and fill it with water. Leave it overnight and you will be surprised how good it will look. You may do it a second time if it isn't great the first time.
Thanks so much for your article. I'll try the ice cubes and salt. I have tried the vinegar, windex cleaner even baking soda and vinegar and it didn't work. So I'll try the ice cubes and salt if that doesn't work I guess I have to replace the my glass vase.
