The New Amazon Kindle 2 - Available For All

On This Monday, February 9, 2009, Amazon announced the Kindle 2 - new wireless reading device (latest generation) , which will be available for purchase starting on February 24, 2009 on all online shops for $359, without the speculated price increase.

There may be a variety of reasons that you want to get a new kindle 2 device. For example, I never thought I'd use an e-book reader, but after buying the Kindle I became an instant convert. It has saved me many a boring hour stuck in airports, doctor's offices, or during business flights. Most hardcover bestsellers or books for business now cost about $30. I can buy the same book for $9 on the Kindle. So the my Kindle now is holding about 100 books.

I love my kindle 1 reading e-book device. Quick, smooth, easy to read, and I don't complain about the large buttons. But I've been waiting for Kindle 2 device. So, I ordered yesterday the my Kindle 2. I received an email saying my order had been upgraded to a Kindle 2 and that I would be in the first group to receive Kindle 2, and would receive mine as soon as Kindle 2 becomes available later this month.

Amazon announced the second latest generation Kindle e-book reader  will be thinner than an iPhone at thick 0.36 inches. There's seven times more storage then the Kindle 1 first generation device packed inside,  and now holds over 1,500 books. It has a new sharper 16-level e-ink display that turns pages some 20 percent faster, provides even crisper images and clearer text for an improved book-like reading experience. There's also a new Read-to-Me Text-to-Speech feature and a 25 percent longer battery life, along with a new five-way joystick controller that makes navigation simpler and faster. Kindle 2 comes with the New Oxford American Dictionary and its 250,000 word definitions built-in, and with Kindle 2 definitions appear instantly at the bottom of the page. Amazon also announced that the Kindle Store has now over 230,000 ebooks, plus U.S. and international newspapers, magazines available.

Finally, If you do a lot of traveling, or if you are like me and hate having paper books everywhere. So, this is a great innovative device  for you and for all readers all around the USA. I’ll bet you must love to have one NOW! Kindle 2 or new Amazon wireless reading device (latest generation) is available today for pre-order.

I've got a Kindle 2 and definitely recommend it! I think I wouldn't buy Kindle DX, it's too big.

I'm a teen too. Actually I think you get your answer already. The Kindle DX is good for the larger screen and PDF conversion, and no others. The larger screen is good for reading newspaper and PDF (which is mostly letter size). If you don't need such thing, the Kindle 2 will be enough. The PDF support on the Kindle DX is better, but if you don't have complicated PDF, the PDF conversion on the Kindle 2 is good enough already. I'm a Kindle 2 owner and I do agree that it is more handy for this slimmer device. Indeed, it is much more convenient because I can just carry it in my purse. Sometimes I'll even complaint that it is still a bit too big, because it cannot fit into some of my smaller purses :P

Hi all I'm only a teen and I don't read all the time but sometimes I like it. I'm really interested in the Kindle and I can't decide if I should just get the Kindle 2 or wait for the DX? I already know what the difference is between the two of them but I want to know what you guys think. I don't read newspapers or documents or anything so I'm thinking that the bigger screen isn't really necessary. The DX seems a lot larger too. I want something portable. I know the DX is portable but the 2 would be better for portability. So let me know what you think. I wish there was a store that carried kindles so I could see one in person. Thanks!

Hi Adam..:)

1. Yes. It will keep your place in multiple books. I frequently have several books going at once, and the K2 remembers where I left off in each one. You can also add bookmarks if you like.

2. Most of my books average 400 to 700 kb. Although the Cooks Illustrated Guide to Cooking is 8.6 MB. Any books that you get from Amazon are backed up on their servers so you can delete and redownload any time. No charge for that.

3. A protective cover or case. Also, many people get a clip-on book light for reading at night. I'd also recommend headphones, so you can listen to music or old radio shows. I have the Cole Haan cover and it works great. I don't use the book light, but your wife may be need it .

Hi Noleen and all, I'm looking into buying a Kindle2 for my wife, And I have a few questions. First: Does the Kindle allow swapping between books during a read? Does it keep the page(bookmark) saved on each book you've started? Second: How much memory does a normal 300-400 page book take up? 100MB? 300MB? Third: What accessories are 'must have' in your opinion? Thanks for the time and I look forward to reading your replies.

Hi Syi, I agree with Noleen, but if you have a US address and a US bank credit card, you can buy kindle 2 and download kindle books while living in Japan as long as you can connect to Amazon.com. You may have to ship the kindle to someone who can bring it to you. Amazon won't ship the Kindle outside US borders.

Sorry, but Amazon does not sell the Kindle 2 outside the United States as Whispernet only works in the U.S. Plans only for cities and areas in all 50 states USA.
